All 35,647 classroom requests on Donorschoose.org received funding from the crypto company Ripple on March 28th, alleviating the burden of supply costs for 28,210 public school teachers from all 50 states in the U.S.
Monica Long, SVP of Marketing at Ripple said the following: “At Ripple, we care about giving back to our community and we collectively value the importance of quality education in developing the next generation of leaders. DonorsChoose.org’s track record speaks for itself — they are highly effective at improving the quality of education and the experience of teachers and students across America. We’re proud to work with them to support classroom needs across the country.”
16,561 public school will receive much-needed items such as books, art supplies, new technology, and more. This 29 million dollar donation is the most substantial donation in Donors Choose’ history, and the largest contribution of a digital currency, period.
Cryptocurrencies get a bad rap for funding the seedy underbelly of criminal activity and the black market, but actions like this show the potential good a new and thriving currency can do. This donation is better than Christmas for these teachers and their schools, definitely a #BestSchoolDay. The education industry could use the support of private sector, and if crypto companies like Ripple want to lead the way, it will do a lot to polish the image of all digital currency.
Ripple provides one frictionless experience to send money globally using the power of blockchain. By joining Ripple’s growing, global network, financial institutions can process their customers’ payments anywhere in the world instantly, reliably and cost-effectively. Banks and payment providers can use the digital asset XRP to further reduce their costs and access new markets.
